Please find below a sample menu to give you an idea of what is being served at Cozinha da Clara. Pedro, our Executive chef, is always adjusting the menu due to seasonal availability and is often trying new dishes. The philosophy of Cozinha da Clara is to serve local Portuguese cuisine at its best – simplicity is the key.  Starters and deserts are priced between €6 to €10 whilst main courses are mainly between €20 and €25.

Starters     

Onion Soup with 'Moira' - black sausage
Oxtail ravioli, made by Chef Pedro, with a ewe’s milk cheese sauce and shitake mushrooms
Sautéed squid, on a bed of black beans purée and served a touch of squid ink
Suckling pig terrine with mushrooms and orange                                                             
Tiny crispy sardines with tomato aioli                                                                                                 
 

Main courses

Char grilled sea bass served on top chef Pedro's interpretation of "caldeirada" (fish stew)

Slow cooked octopus with new potatoes baked in the oven & Extra Virgin olive oil from the Quinta

Chef Pedro's interpretation of "brás de bacalhau" with egg cooked at low temperatures (yolk is undercooked)

Locally reared beef, sweet potato purée served with roasted vegetables and root vegetables chips

Slowly cooked leg of lamb

Traditional kid (baby goat) with roasted potatoes and cabbage sproutsCod cooked with ‘broa’ from Covas do Douro (local maize bread), with mashed potato and olives

Slow cooked octopus with new potatoes baked in the oven & extra virgin olive oil from the Quinta

Spinach raviolis stuffed with ricotta cheese

Creamy polenta, sautéed vegetables & mushrooms

Penne with tomato sauce and seasonal roast vegetables

Desserts

Many Portuguese desserts are very sweet and quite heavy, but chef Pedro´s are the opposite – worth a try. Don’t forget a glass of Port.
